General Notes:
The Record of Jacob Mann of Indian Creek By Margaret B Ballard M.D. July 31, 1961 page 37
Elizabeth Mann, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Kessinger/Kissinger) Mann, was born 31 Mar 1792 and died 1 Apr 1866 (from tombstones in Keaton Cemetery). She married 27 Aug 1809 Rev. Johnson "Jack" Keaton, son of James and Ankley (Ballard) Keaton. Johnson Keaton was a minister in the Primitive Baptist Church. I quote from the records of the old Indain Creek Baptist Church. " We were called on by the Indian Creek Baptist Church of Christ in Monroe the state of Virginia as a Presspetery of the Baptist Society to ordain our beloved brother, Johnson Keaton, to the work of the ministry we did this 19h day of December 1824, Proceed as Presspetery with the said church to the ordination of the said Johnson Keaton to full work of the Gospel Ministry and the administration of the Ordinences of the Church of Jesus Christ. In which employment we pray that God may be with him and prosper him in every good work and work given from under our hands and seal the day above written."
Johnson and Besty lived on the slope of the Hill at the foot of what is now the Keaton Cemetery. They house was a double log building, two stories with two large chimneys; one chimney at the south end and one between two halves of the house. From the photograph it would appear that the house was not all built at the same time but there are no records to prove this. The Keaton Cemetery is located on the Johnson Keaton Farm.
1819 John and Barbara Maddy to Johnson Keaton 133 acres on Indian Creek 1825 John Maddy and wife to Johnson Keaton 90 acres on Cook's Run 1836 Johnson Keaton and wife to Andrew Ellison 68 acres and 142 poles on Indian Creek.
Elizabeth married Reverend Johnson Keaton, son of James Keaton and Ankey Ballard, on 27 Aug 1809 in Monroe Co, Virginia (Now WV).1 (Reverend Johnson Keaton was born on 14 Jul 1792 in Greenbrier Co, Virginia,2 died on 21 Jan 1851 in Monroe Co, Virginia (Now WV) 2 and was buried in Keaton Cemetery, Cook's Run, Monroe Co, WV.)
