SOURCES: Pepin Carloman, King de Lombardie (Andre Roux: Scrolls, 112, 255.) (Stuart, Royalty for Commoners, Page 168, Line 231-40.) (Rosamond, Frankish kingdom under Carolingians.) (Andre Castelot, Histoire de La France, Tome 1, Page 424). Born: in Apr 773 in Aachen, Rhineland, Prussia, son of Charlemagne, Rex Francorum et Langobardorum and Hildegard, Countess de Linzgau, Pepin, born Carloman, was baptized by Pope Hadrien I in Rome on 15 April 781 at the age of 9 years, on Easter Eve. On Easter Sunday, he is consecrated at receives the crown of the Lombards. Note - between 781 and 810: Charlemagne had Carloman's name changed to Pepin when Charlemagne made him King of Italy (Lombardie) in 781 at age 9 as his eldest son. This name change is thought to have been related to the revolt of Pepin Le Bossu (the Hunchback) - Charlemagne's eldest but illegitimate son. In 792, he rebelled against Charlemagne's wife Fastrada, accusing her of cruelty -- not without reason. The plot was discovered thanks to the Lombard Fardulf, and all principals were either beheaded or suspended on pitchforks, except for Pepin who was shaven and sent to the monastery of Pru m. He was King until 810. He fought the Avares and the Sarrasins. Upon his death, the Kingdom of Lombardy was attached to the Empire.
