bullet  General Notes:

"The Stouts are of German descent...They settled first in Pennsylvania briefly, then moved down thru the Shenandoah into Washington County, Tennessee, early in 1800. "...John Stout owned land near Limestone and sent his children to Washington College (which was near their home). The home of Davy Crockett was also close by. "...It has been brought down in the family that he had $50,000 in gold buried in or around his home. In the time of the Civil War, soldiers attempted to get the gold. They hung him, and when his wife could stand it no more, she told where a part of it was. In later years, a cache of gold was found on the place at a tree by timbermen that was thought by the family to have been a part of his hidden money (the writer has the newspaper article of this incident)."
