Was listed in the 1860 Monroe Co Census as Miles H. - Peterson township, age 25. Wife Nancy age 27, child Sarah age 3.

According to the 1937 Biggs Family History, Miles was killed at the Second Battle of Cold Harbor at a place called Gumes Farm. Military records show the following:

Miles enlisted in the 166th Militia Co E as a private on 8/4/1861 in Monroe Co, WV. He was discharged on 8/11/1861. He enlisted in Capt. Lively's Company of the 166th Militia on 8/22/1861 and served until 10/11/1861. He was granted a furlough due to sickness. He then enlisted as a private in Chapman's Battery on 4/25/1862 in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co, VA. He was present through April of the next year. On 7/23/1863, he enlisted as a private in Co F of the 26th Bat VA infantry at Camp Sam Jones, Greenbrier Co, VA. His duty was fifer.

On 5/31/1864, Miles was wounded in action at Gardner's Farm, VA with a severe shoulder wound. Later that day, he was mortally wounded in action at Taylor's Farm, VA with a shell wound to his pelvis. He was taken to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, VA. He died there a week later on 6/7/1864. This information comes directly from the muster cards and rolls.

Miles married Nancy Ann Lively, daughter of Benjamin Lively and Sarah Upton, on 4 Sep 1857 in Monroe Co, Virginia (Now WV).1 2 (Nancy Ann Lively was born on 17 Apr 1833 in Brush Creek, Monroe Co Virginia 1 and died on 14 May 1885 in Monroe Co, Virginia (Now WV) 1.)
