John Wayland

  General Notes:

John Wayland had substantial holdings at his death, indicating that he was quite a successful farmer. Catherine survived him for many years, and she appears to have remained active until past the age of 80. She lived to be around 100 years old! (Her brother Michael was also long lived.)

John's will names only one child, daughter Margaret. The rest of the children are taken from an inventory of articles that was made at the time of John's will. It lists the heirs and which articles they had been given as 'early inheritance' prior to John's death. Given the size of his estate, this was a very prudent measure. ¹

John married Catherine Broyles, daughter of Jacob Broyles and Maria Catherine Fleischmann, about 1750 in Culpeper Co, Virginia. (Catherine Broyles was born about 1730 in Spotsylvania Co, Virginia and died in Jun 1831 in Madison Co, Virginia.)
