Newton Smith, son of Sperry and Lucinda (Chambers) Smith was born 1843 in Jackson County, Nissouri. he came back to Monroe with his parents and lived near cashmere for over 75 years. He was well known as the "peacemaker" of the Smiths. He married 1st Eliza Jane Crotty in 1868 daughter of James T and Eliza (Meador/Meadows) Crotty. 1. Robert 2. James 3. Conrad 4. Emma married Bert Smith 5. girl He married 2nd Icyvinda Rebecca Campbell, daughter of Cyrus Campbell in 1883. The had 5 girls I only know the name of one: Ethel married James Cowan and lives in McDowell County
