   Another name for Gregor was Gregor The Great.

  General Notes:

John Macgregor of Glenorchy, who died in 1390, is said to have had three sons; Patrick, his successor' John Dow, ancestor of the family of Glenstrae, who became the chief of the clan; and Greogor, ancestor of the Macgregors of Roro. Patrick's son, Malcolm, was compelled by the Campbells to sell the lands of Auchinrevach in Strathfillan to Campbell of Glenorchy, who thus obtained the first footing in Breadalbane, which afterwards gave the title of earl to his family. Tutor to Glenstrae and leader of the clan 1528-1545. Probably should have become the rightful chief of Clan Gregor in 1519 when Ian the Black died, but the Campbells promoted instead the chieftain of Clan Dougal Ciar.
