Sarah Ruckman

  General Notes:

Vol. 1 of "Some Quaker Families, Scarborough/Haworth" by Roger S. Boone, pub. 1991 states that Sarah Ruckman daughter of Thomas and Sarah Ruckman married on Apr. 27, 1767 in Maryland John Scarborough and had 11 children including a Hezekiah Bye Scarborough b. 1785.

This Sarah must not be the dau of Thomas Ruckman and Sarah Bye, birthdates were for that Sarah.

I've added her to the John Ruckman (d. 1750) of Hunterdon Co. line based soley on her husbands connection to Kingwood twp., Hunterdon Co.. It's also possible she was a daughter of John's brother Thomas who lived next door.

The following is from a posting I found on a WV Hampshire Co archives website by Henry Sutliff:

Sarah Ruckman, wife of John Burket, was identified in the 1920's by Hiram
Deats, the great genealogist, as daughter of Thomas Ruckman and Sarah Bye of
Bucks Co., PA. However, I have been able to disprove that as that Sarah
Ruckman was married to fellow Quaker John Scarborough, by whom she had many
children.

Most likely, John Burket's Sarah was daughter of either Samuel or James
Ruckman whose properties bordered John Burket's in Kingwood. As yet I have
been unable to pinpoint the correct parentage.

Samuel Ruckman's property was bordered by that of William Allen, father of
David Allen of Hampshire Co. Elizabeth Allen Burkett's father Robert first
appears on the Hampshire tax rolls the same day paying as David Allen and
Gabriel Fox. So far I have not identified the origin of Robert Allen, but it
is curious that his wife's name was Isabelle and that one of their daughters
was named Iva, all three names not uncommon in the New Jersey Allen and Fox
families. In Hampshire records the only Ivas found have been in the Fox,
Allen, Burkett and Blue families. Perhaps someday.

Sarah married John Burkett about 1768 in Possibly Hunterdon Co, NJ. (John Burkett was born in 1724 in Germany and died in 1807 in Kingwood Township, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey.)
