There is much confusion about which Margaret "Peggy" Swope married Joseph Scaggs. There were two Margaret Swopes - this Margaret was the daughter of Michael Swope (see will reference below). The other Margaret Swope is the daughter of Joseph Swope, Michael's brother, and she married John S. Nicholas. Both Margarets were born in 1777.
In "West Virginia Estate Settlements" compiled by Ross B. Johnston, page 176 is the reference to Michael's Will: Swope, Michael, Will 5-1839. Dev.: John, James, Michael, sons; Mary Thompson, Leah Paul, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Scaggs, Ann Harvey, daus; others.
